In 1954, the decision was made to move Eden Home to New Braunfels. Property was located on Lakeview Boulevard on a beautifully wooded hillside and ground was broken. On October 10, 1956, the first building on the present campus was dedicated and opened for business. Several additions and expansions have occurred over the years; the governing boards and managing officers of Eden Home having the foresight to provide a service that continually grows and expands or contracts to meet the demands and requirements of it’s community.
The Eden Home dream began because of the love and commitment of the Martin Schmidts who were members of the Friedens Church. With the assistance of their pastor, they gave a generous donation to the Texas Synod in the amount of $10,000 for the purpose of building an “old folks home” and a retirement home for invalid and retired pastors. The first building was dedicated on July 5, 1910. In the beginning, Eden Home was mainly a custodial care facility located in San Antonio on South Presa Street. At that time, the churches played a major role in providing financial assistance so that a level of care could be maintained for those who could not otherwise afford the cost of health care.
Today, Eden Home remains a significant contributor in providing health care in the State of Texas.
